New production studio brings jobs, movies and shows to NYC

QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) — Film and television production is big business in the region. Now, it has a new place to call home in Queens.

Wildflower Studios is being called the first vertical studio, rising seven stories above a ground-floor entrance and parking area off 19th Avenue along the East River in Astoria. Truck, loading and deliveries can service each level.

The 760,000-square-foot building was completed in December. It houses 11 soundstages, which can be combined to create larger areas. It features luxury staging areas and production rooms.

Crews are already working on projects at Wildflower. They can host all stages of film, TV, game, and other digital media production on the campus.

Actor Robert De Niro helped develop the company and project.

On Monday, the Commissioner and staff of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment toured the new facility.

The film and TV industry employs thousands in the city and generates tens of billions of dollars for small businesses and the local economy.

This year’s state budget included an expansion of the tax credit for productions to make New York competitive with other locations.
